SIMBY means “Sustainability in my backyard.” It’s a blog about sustainability started by neighbours Lisa Hemingway and Sean Enns, in Nanaimo, BC.
Lisa’s from the mainland (Vancouver and, originally, Salmon Arm). She and her husband moved here a year ago to find a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle. Sean’s from Vancouver Island. He recently stumbled into the sustainability movement, and has a lot of questions about how to live more responsibly, and sustainably. SIMBY is a collaboration. Two crazy kids discovering what it
means to be sustainable on Central Vancouver Island.
Sean is a freelance marketer, writer, and the owner of Harbour City SEO. In his spare time, he’s the co-producer of a radio program called The Farmer’s Table, a show focusing on agricultural news and issues. He’s the founder of Nanaimo’s Word Nerds, a creative group for professional writers in Nanaimo. He’s interested in exploring the sustainable food movement, DIY lifestyle, and urban homesteading.
Lisa is a collaborative creative consultant, and the owner of Backyard Creative. She brings a wealth of experience in urban sustainability movements from Vancouver, and is interested in exploring and discovering likeminds here on Vancouver Island. Lisa is active with the Nanaimo Design Nerds, One Earth Initiative and the GDC National Sustainability Committee. She’s interested in concepts surrounding the new economy, consumer behaviours and re-purposing materials to reduce waste streams.
